“At first I thought I was coming here just to get a check. Now I realize that Civicorps is more than that, it’s an awakening!” – Radisha, Class of 1998
On April 1st, we hosted a College and Career Fair to introduce our students to a variety of pathways they can take to advance their career. We kicked off the fair with a panel of alumni who shared what they learned from Civicorps as well as offered advice to current students.
“Civicorps taught me to never quit. That pushed me to keep climbing up the ladder to accomplish my goals.” – Brandon, Class of 2014
Immediately after the panel, students participated in interactive workshops where they discussed: transferring to a university from a community college, choosing the right major, entering apprenticeships, and pursuing career opportunities in technology, engineering, journalism, human resources, and culinary arts.
Workshops were led by:
- 42, Inc.
- Tradeswomen
- Pipefitters
- Lather’s Apprenticeships
- Kaiser Permanente
- Waste Management
- Beyond Emancipation
- San Jose State University
- Laney College
“My favorite workshop was the SJSU presentation. It encouraged me to go to college!” – Dlorah, current student
Students also networked with presenters to make connections that will aid them in pursing college, internships, or apprenticeships following graduation.
“I loved talking to Brisha. The Waste Management workshop motivated me to keep pushing forward no matter what!” – Liz Marie, current student
