We are, and always will be, a Sanctuary School

As the grandchild of immigrants who sought opportunity and freedom in the US at the turn of the previous century, I know that having a fierce motivation to succeed is not limited by race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability or immigration status.

sactuary-schoolCivicorps accepts ALL young adults, age 18-26, who want to earn their high-school diploma. Immigrants have always been an important part of our diverse school community and we have a specific academic path tailored to meet the needs of undocumented immigrants.

All youth have the right to a quality education and Civicorps stands with Oakland Unified School District as a sanctuary school for immigrants. We do not ask for or require proof of legal immigration status upon enrollment.

Many undocumented, newcomer, and refugee students have thrived at Civicorps over the years. Oftentimes we cannot share their stories due to privacy requests, but we want you to know that our doors and our hearts are open to our members of the immigrant community.

We stand in solidarity with our Muslim neighbors and undocumented community members and will continue to provide a safe space for all young people seeking academic opportunity, supportive resources, and a place of learning filled with positive energy.

Thank you for being an integral part of our community. Together, our commitment to our mission only deepens each day.

In gratitude,

Alan Lessik
