Mission

You can help Civicorps provide transformative education, employment, and community enrichment activities for Oakland’s highest risk youth through the following volunteer opportunities.

Academic Coach

In-Class Academic Coach: (2-4 hours a week) provides one-on-one and small group support in the classroom. Academic Coaches will commit to assisting in a class (English, Math, or Research class) once or twice a week. Consistent support builds trust with the students and increases the efficacy of the lessons. This volunteer position allows for Academic Coaches to create long-lasting relationships with Civicorps staff and students.

    • Ideal for retirees, for students who are pursuing a teacher career, for college or graduate students, or for individuals who are temporarily unemployed and want to build their resume.

Floating Academic Coach:(2-4 hours a month) provides one-on-one and small group support to students who require additional educational support. Academic Coaches will assist with writing or math assignments, will provide support with resume writing or job searches, will read test questions aloud, and will review classroom material with the students. Floating Academic Coaches have the opportunity to help in multiple subjects and can help Civicorps address the highest needs of the day.

    • Ideal for working professionals, for college or graduate students, for community groups, for retirees, or for individuals who are temporarily unemployed and want to build their resume.

Seasonal Academic Coach: (2-8 hours a year) provides one-on-one and small group support to students in preparation for upcoming tests and college enrollment. Seasonal Academic Coaches offer in-depth support for students during high-stress times of the year and can help students access the extra boost they need to graduate.

College Enrollment: December – January and June – August
Testing: February, May, July, and October

    • Ideal for working professionals, for college or graduate students, for community groups, for retirees, or for individuals who are temporarily unemployed and want to build their resume.

Conservation Ally

Volunteer alongside Corpsmembers to enhance and preserve our environment. Civicorps invites families, corporations, and individuals to join us for conservation events in partnership with such partners as East Bay Regional Parks District. Events are held throughout the year and often sync with national days of services such as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Earth Day.

Join Civicorps for Earth Day!

Held in partnership with East Bay Regional Parks District, our volunteers will assist with the removal of an invasive species alongside Civicorps youth who are donating their time to help the community.
