On May 8, 2012, the Board of Director of Civicorps Schools voluntarily voted to close Civicorps Elementary School (Charter #099), a charter school authorized by Oakland Unified School District. The reason for the closure was the continuing deficits run by the school which could no longer be supported by the parent organization. Declining enrollments and declining State funding rates made it impossible to balance the budget in future years while adhering to the charter. The school closed on June 8, 2012.
